In a press release today, Central Market, which is owned by H-E-B, revealed it is embarking on an expansion of its existing store at 3815 Westheimer. The project will cost $10 million and add an additional 10,000 square feet to the store.
Among the improvements is a new, brighter facade for the front of the store as well as a new entrance enhanced with an atrium, skylights and vaulted ceilings. The current information desk will be relocated to this area.
The produce section, which is already rather vast, will become 33 percent larger. The store will boast more groceries than ever before, including an expanded selection of imported products and olive oils.
The dairy department is slated to become larger as well, and additional, single-lane checkouts will be added to get customers on their way quickly.
Customers who have ever had to fight for a parking space on a busy Saturday will be glad to know that dedicated employee parking is in the works, too, which will free up more spaces for customers.

Central Market will remain open throughout the process, and the new construction and remodeling is estimated to be complete by spring 2017.
