With nearly 500 original works from more than 250 local artists, Art on the Avenue is Houston's ultimate “buy local” fundraiser. Now in its 22nd year, the event has grown to become the city’s largest silent charity art auction, benefiting the community revitalization efforts of non-profit community development organization Avenue, which in the aftermath of Harvey, have become more important than ever. Not only does each art purchase support Avenue’s mission to build affordable homes and strengthen communities – it also gives back to Houston’s thriving arts community and the artists who make the event possible.
Art on the Avenue is comprised of two signature evenings. The VIP Preview Party on Thursday, Nov. 1 gives guests an exclusive "first look" and opportunity to bid on the artwork prior to the main Auction and Party on Saturday, Nov. 3. This year’s Art on the Avenue will once again offer new ways to win with mobile bidding and will feature a reprise of previous years’ delectable art-inspired bites, curated wines, local brews and lively musical performances.
Bill Baldwin of Boulevard Realty, and Fady Armanious of Tootsie’s join Art on the Avenue as this year’s honorary chairs.
Chris Silkwood and Kelly Simmons are Preview Party hosts.
Gus Kopriva of Redbud Gallery will serve as guest juror and curator of the main gallery for this lively exhibition and sale.
Shepard Ross, restaurateur and raconteur, joins as culinary curator for the Preview Party. [Organizer's description]
