Black, White & Sunshine shares the heartbreaking tale of a teenage boy (Ricky) who falls victim to the over-generalization of zero tolerance policies in schools, prompting a 3-year jail sentence that forever changes the dynamics of his family. Although he’s paid his debt to society, his first felony conviction will forever hinder his ability to enjoy true freedom. Haunted by the guilt and “what if’s” of a complicated past, the now thirty-something convict, facing his third strike, has lost faith in the justice system, as well as his young, inexperienced public defender (Tabatha). Through their court-appointed visits, both parties discover the danger of apathy and fixed mindsets. The ensemble cast displays the complexities of life, urging us all towards human kindness, compassion and recognition that life is not all ‘Black and White.' [Organizer's description]
