Find protection in the practices of Buddhism
Refuge is the gateway to entering Buddhism and increases our wish to gain freedom from suffering for both ourself and others.
In the morning session of this course, we’ll explore the meaning of Buddhist refuge, the causes of going for refuge and the importance of turning to the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma and Sangha). This is a wonderful opportunity both for those new to Buddhism, and those who have been practicing for a while, to engage in this beautiful heart practice of Buddhism which leads us to a more meaningful life. The course will conclude with a beautiful refuge vow ceremony.
Refuge Vow Ceremony
Through participating in this beautiful ceremony, we express our commitment to seek refuge in the Three Jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha – in order to liberate ourselves permanently from all fears and suffering, so that we may become someone who can help others do the same.
When we go for refuge to the Three Jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha – we enter into the Buddhist family.
Buddha is the source of all teachings and blessings, Dharma is the realization of Buddha’s teachings, and Sangha is the pure Dharma practitioners who help us with our spiritual practice.
Dharma is like medicine that prevents the sufferings of the three lower realms, Buddha is the doctor who gives us this medicine, and the Sangha are the nurses who assist us.
In the afternoon session we will take a look at how we practically go for refuge in our daily life. For practitioners who have expressed their commitment to seeking the benefits of a Buddhist refuge, there are well-known methods for applying effort to developing a beautiful relationship with Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. We all know that the energy we put into our relationships helps determine the results we experience, and refuge is no different. Learn how to have a practical approach to refuge that energizes your spiritual life.
