Duplicity: Shannon Cannings and William Cannings

Anya Tish Gallery is excited to present "Duplicity", a highly anticipated two-person collaborative exhibition of Shannon Cannings hyper-realistic paintings and inflated steel sculptures by William Cannings. Shannon Cannings’ eye-popping depiction of toy guns explores the toxic disposition of American consumerism, drawing attention to the dichotomy of gun violence and the seemingly harmless children’s toy. Exuding a nostalgic and whimsical mood, William Cannings’ process-oriented sculptures of children’s pool toys embrace the pastime memories of childhood, while his site-specific "Clouds" installation, weightless and ethereal, was inspired by the artist’s childhood fascination with the iconic "Silver Clouds" by Billy Klüver and Andy Warhol.
