Join us for a day of fun activities celebrating the heritage of historic Independence Heights along North Main Street. Enjoy various activities including live band performances, food trucks and more. The day opens with a military salute followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Independence Heights Welcome Center with elected officials and other special guest.
This is a grand event to celebrate the kick off of our new North Main Street Cultural Corridor. The cultural corridor is part of a national initiative to recognize the significance of historic black towns and settlements across America. The North Main Street Cultural Corridor will contribute to the cultural fabric of Houston serving as a reflection of its diversity and historic past.
This year’s event is made possible by various sponsors including CITGO as the title sponsor. We are grateful to HEB, St. Arnold's Brewery and the Mission Continues for their support and commitment to making this event a success.
Attendees at the festival will enjoy performances by local school bands, cheerleaders and the Independence Heights Senior Line Dancers. The event will feature local live talent on stage throughout the event. Local food vendors will also be on hand to serve up great food and festive drinks.
Another feature of the event is an artist showcase. Local artist from Solel International will engage in several live paintings of mini murals that will eventually be installed along the North Main Street Corridor. [Organizer's description]
