Milada is about one of the most heroic characters of the 20th century and among her native Czechoslovakia’s most tragic figures under the country’s decades-long totalitarian rule. Filmmakers had avoided telling her story for a long time, but nearly 70 years after a show trial staged by the country’s communist regime and a decade after new footage of the excruciatingly biased nine-day trial was discovered, we finally have a film meant to share the full story with us.February 9th, 2018 (Friday), 7:00PM Jan Novak was born in Czechoslovakia and emigrated to the United States at age 17. He was educated at the University of Chicago and has been making his living as a writer. His book Zatim dobry (So Far, So Good, 2004) won the Magnesia Litera Book of the Year award, one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the Czech Republic. [Organizer's description]
