Houston Cinema Arts Festival 2020

Houston Cinema Arts Festival 2020

Houston Cinema Arts Festival 2020 (Nov 12 - Nov 22) celebrates "Urbana," the theme inspired by the globally popular Spanish-language genre música Urbana, which originates in the intermingling between indigenous and African music and cultures in the Americas and the Caribbean during the transatlantic slave trade and the subsequent influence of modern African-American culture on art and music. Through the lineup of films, sharply pointing at the issues of the present day, HCAF 2020 focuses on the intersection between the arts and film, saluting the historic and diverse interests of the people of Houston. HCAF 2020 opens with the Texas premiere of Mogul Mowgli at the MoonStruck Drive-In and on the virtual platform. Directed by the Houston-native filmmaker Bassam Tariq and starring actor/rapper Tiz Ahmed, Mogul Mowgli already received critical acclaim from the Berlin Film Festival. Following up, HCAF 2020 presents other acclaimed films, ranging from those that deal with the local history of Texas and Houston to those that offer a global perspective. In between screenings, special events such as Q&A and live events with DJ will be available through the virtual platform. The eleven-day festival will close with the virtual screening of New Order and Night of the Kings. [Organizer's description]
