The Fashion Showdown seeks to spotlight local designers who are passionate about fashion, beauty, health and wellness. Its goal is to provide designers with the proper exposure to showcase their talents and reward them for their efforts. This year, the winner of the competition will receive a cash prize, free sessions at Couture for Change Modeling Academy, and a free trip to New York to attend New York Fashion Week.
Chekesha Johnson is an international runway model who has worked with global brands like L’oreal, JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Maxim and more. Her modeling career has developed mutually beneficent relationships between brands and models. As a successful model, the native Houstonian gives back to her community by using her credentials and celebrity contacts to spotlight the talents of local designers.
Chekesha created The Fashion Showdown to reward Houstonian talents for their creativity, while granting them access to resources that will ensure their success in the fashion industry. In 2018, the show secured over one million media impressions, leveraging public figures such as Ashley Nicole of “Hair Are Us,” Fashion Model Irvin Randle, and Houston Producer Kristin Douglas as celebrity judges of our fashion designer competition. With over 200 quality attendees last year, this year we are expecting over 300 attendees to join us at Houston's top ranked venue, LIFE HTX.
This year, the judges will be Houston Fashion Week’s “Best International Designer,” Beena Yusuf, producer of “When Worlds Collide” themed fashion show, Manuel Reuter, viral sensation and designer of Slay Attire, Toya Jewel, and executive producer of “Couture for Change” charity fashion shows, Bichar Myrtil.
