El Big Bad picks up where the defunct El Gran Malo left off, serving as a funky, friendly joint in a revitalized area of downtown Houston. They create dozens of tequila infusions in-house with a wide variety of fruits, peppers and spices. While they're open all day, every day, for both lunch and dinner (be sure to try the ribs, ceviche and pozole ), the Sunday brunch especially is a winner. There's hardly a better way to recover from the weekend than dining on hearty, rib-sticking pozole; sweet, creamy torrejas (French toast infused with the same sweet milk blend used in tres leches cake); ancho-chile-spiced hot wings; and several different types of layered enchiladas from chef Jonathan Jones. Overall, the bar and restaurant is a fun, stylish, eclectic venue ideal for casual dates and get-togethers.
