Karanchos

Karanchos is equally famous for its tacos and its trompo, a vertical spit that produces successively sweet and tangy layers of dark orange pork thanks to a piece of pineapple that sits on top and coats the meat as it rotates. It's also a great place for cheap Mexican eats in large portions, as its slogan indicates: "Donde como mucho y paga poco." But this Channelview place isn't your average taco truck: Karanchos boasts plenty of tree-shaded seating, plastic menus, waitstaff, a POS system - even flat-screen TVs. That's because it's far outside the City of Houston's irascible reach here in the frontier of Channelview, where the taco trucks are allowed to roam free.
