Without You: The Best Houston Music of The Week

This week there's a holiday but there's plenty of music on tap from the likes of Journey, Def Leppard, GGOOLLDD, Bad Bunny, Yelawolf alongside locals like Bun B, texture:yellow, MIEARS and HAHA!

Tonight you can get down with ohGr upstairs at White Oak Music Hall. The industrial act formed by members of Skinny Puppy has been going strong since the mid-'90s, and their latest release Tricks is worth hearing in person. There's no word of openers for the all ages show. Doors at 7 p.m.; tickets $25.

Over at Continental Club, the hip hop of Flynt Flossy & Turquoise Jeep will make their return to town. Flossy in his own right has made a name for himself as a performer and artist with his album F. Floss InternatioKnown.  Virgil Wolfe will bring his unparalleled rhyme skills on beforehand while Texture:Yellow will get the 21 & up show started. Doors at 8 p.m.; tickets $12.

On Thursday the pop punk of Chicago's Belmont will be over at The Secret Group. Supporting their debut Belmont, their emo-tinged sound has plenty of energy. New York's Such Gold, Florida's Intervention, Houston's HIGHDIVE, and Moon Phase will all be on before. Houston's Coast N' Bay will get the all ages evening started. Doors at 5 p.m.; tickets $12 to $15.


Satellite Bar will get bumpin' when Houston's Mantra Love headline a set. It's been a bit since we saw these guys perform; their last drop was "Strawberry Milk"  The synth sounds of Austin's Hey Cowboy! will be on prior while the dreamy synths of Tee Vee will be on before them. Houston's So, so will get the all ages night going. Doors at 7 p.m.; tickets $10.

Downstairs at White Oak Music Hall, you can spend some time with Bun B and friends. The show is in celebration of his upcoming release Return Of The Trill. There's no word of who the friends are yet, but that should change for the all ages show. Doors at 8 p.m.; tickets $9.37 to $40.

Smart Financial Centre will host the return of Bad Bunny. After a sold out appearance the last time the Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer was here, he's back ready to get feet moving in support of his latest string of singles. There's no word of openers for the all ages performance. Doors at 8 p.m.; tickets $55.50 to $145.50.

Friday at Dosey Doe you can enjoy classics like "Workin' For The Weekend," "Lovin' Every Minute of It," and more when Loverboy returns to town. These guys have had a ton of hits and they should rock the big barn with style. Doors at 6:30 p.m.; tickets $158 to $218, price includes dinner.

Upstairs at White Oak Music Hall, the electronic sounds and beat boxing skills of New Jersey's Flamingosis will drop dance heavy tunes and support last year's A Groovy Thing.  New York's Birocratic will get the all ages evening started. Doors at 7 p.m.; tickets $15.

Mucky Duck will have the raw talent of Ohio's Griffin House. The acoustic pop singer has made plenty of fans wherever he's played, and with his most recent album So On and So Forth. There's no openers for the 21 & up show. Doors at 7 p.m.; tickets $25 to $27.


At Notsuoh you could catch the creepy and dark industrial sounds of San Antonio's Encrypted with their latest drop Regression. Houston's Daze will bring their shoe gaze on beforehand while the ambient dream pop of Houston's Glia will be on as well. A DJ set from Tearful Moon will get the 21 & up show started. Doors at 9 p.m.; Free.

At Continental Club, the rock sounds of Houston's Londale will be around to perform. It's hard to deny a band that carries a write up from No Depression, their live shows are pretty extraordinary, and their debut AM/FM from last year was spot on. Their latest E,P,; this year's It's a Different World takes their sound further. A set from Dallas and Austin based group Heart of The City will be on prior while D.C. based trio Stereo Riots will get the 21 & up show started. Doors at 9 p.m.; tickets $12.

Mucky Duck hosts the twangy country tinged sounds of Houston's Folk Family Revival whose last album Water Walker is a true gem. The 21 & up show has no openers. Doors at 9:30; tickets $20 to $22.


Saturday you can get down on the roof at White Oak Music Hall for another edition of Open Source. Hiram will headline this version, and the producer is definitely an artist on the rise. His Soundcloud pays alone are worth checking out, and his jam with John Allen Stephens "For Anou" is about as groove heavy as it gets. Sets from 9th Sage, Morgan Morgan, and 50ber will also be on the all ages show. Doors at 7 p.m.; tickets $5.

The hip hop of Yelawolf will be on hand at House of Blues. The skater turned rapper has been on a tear as of late, and his latest release Trial By Fire has made him plenty of new fans. Waylon & Willie will get the all ages show started. Doors at 7 p.m.; tickets $25.

Any way you want it, you can get it when Journey swings by Toyota Center with Def Leppard. The San Francisco five piece has been truckin' along since the '70s, with hits like "Don't Stop Believin'," and "Faithfully." Of course, the gents from Def Leppard are no strangers to rock with tunes like "Pour Some Sugar On Me," and "Rock of Ages."  There's no other openers for the all ages show. Doors at 7 p.m.; tickets $49.50 to $179.50.


Out at Scout Bar, Galveston's To Whom It May will bring their latest release The Great Filter to life for their album release party. The trio plays hard and works hard, and they should make fans of the band happy for their return at this show. Sugar Land's Hindsight and the prog of Houston's Anova Skyway will be on prior. The 18 & up show will get opened up by Carry the Storm. Doors at 8 p.m.; tickets $7.

Upstairs at White Oak Music Hall, the indie pop of Louisiana's GIVERS will be supporting their new E.P. Movin On. There's no word of openers for the all ages evening. Doors at 8 p.m.; tickets $13.

Rudyard's will host the fuzz driven rock of College Station's The Ex-Optimists. They're one of the loudest bands in Texas so you might want to bring ear plugs. The indie rock of Houston's A Sundae Drive will be on before, while the intensity of Only Beast will open the 21 & up show Doors at 8 p.m.; tickets $5.


GGOOLLDD and their electro popwill make their return over at Satellite Bar. Their latest release Teeth, has standout tracks "Without You" and "Secrets." Houston's MIEARS will bring her electronica on prior while John Allen Stephens will get people grooving for the all ages show. Doors at 10 p.m.; tickets $10.

On Monday, Journey and Def Leppard will return to Toyota Center, this time with Def Leppard headlining the all ages affair. Doors at 7 p.m.; tickets $49.50 to $179.50.

At Satellite Bar, the hardcore of Omaha's BIB will be intown. Their 2017 release MOSHPIT was dark and intense. Houston's Private Eye will be on the bill, as will the punk of Deep Web. Houston's Anillo will also bring their punk while HAHA! will get the all ages show started. Doors at 8 p.m.; tickets $8.
