Don't expect too much of this if you are coming into town on 290 this weekend.
For a long time (seven years to be exact) it seemed like nothing but bad news came out of the U.S. 290 corridor. There were perpetual construction issues, horrible traffic and plentiful numbers of accidents. Then, the sun began to break through the clouds. First, some of the inbound lanes began to open. Then, outbound. It was like a gift from the traffic gods.

Alas, there is still much left to do on 290 before its eventual full completion in early 2019. Most of that has been confined to the feeder roads, mercifully, but on occasion, we still get a brutal total closure of the freeway. When that happens, it is best to stay as far away from the area as possible. This weekend is one such time.

From this Saturday (September 22) at 9 p.m. through Sunday (September 23) at 9 p.m., all inbound lanes of the highway from FM 529 (just west of the Beltway) through Hollister Road will be closed. That includes all the connections from Beltway 8.

It could be worse. It could start Friday and run through Monday, but anyone planning a trek into town from Cypress may want to make alternate plans this weekend.

The slightly good news is that there are no other major closures scheduled for this weekend, just the usual hellish traffic and suspension-ruining potholes. So, there's that.
