Houston's 5 Best Weekend Food Bets: Whiskey, Jerk Chicken, and Bao

Here’s a look at this weekend's best culinary happenings:

Saint Arnold Midtown Pub Crawl

Saturday, 2 to 6 p.m.

The Saint Arnold Pub Crawl is heading to Midtown, stopping at Front Porch Pub, 217 Gray, Christian's Tailgate, 2000 Bagby, 3rd Floor and Pub Fiction, 2303 Smith, Irish Cowboy, 2300 Louisiana, and The Dogwood, 2403 Bagby, before finishing up with an after-party at Little Woodrow’s, 2306 Brazos. Crawlers can pick up their punch cards at any of the stops from 2 to 3 p.m. Finish the trek and you’ll earn a coveted Saint Arnold pint glass at Little Woodrow’s (beginning at 6 p.m.). 

Taste of New Orleans at Jones Plaza
Saturday, 3 to 10 p.m.

The fourth annual Taste of New Orleans will bring some Big Easy flavor to Jones Plaza, with live music, art, and authentic Nola-inspired food and drink. General admission tickets are $5. h

Whiskies of the World at Silver Street Studios
Saturday, 6 to 9 p.m. (5 p.m. VIP)

Whiskey enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Whiskies of the World Expo, featuring distillers from around the world, connoisseurs and whisky celebrities, guided tastings and classes (including one from Mike Raymond of Reserve 101 and The Cottonmouth Club), cigar and whiskey pairings, food pairings, mixology demos, and hundreds of whiskies to sample. Tickets are $120 for general admission (6 to 9 p.m.) and $145 for VIP (with early entry 5 p.m.). 

Tobiuo Sushi & Bar Pop-Up at NAM Eatery
Sunday, 1 to 7 p.m.

After a successful Houston Restaurant Weeks run its restaurant in Katy, Tobiuo Sushi & Bar is bringing its inspired fare inside the Loop with a special pop-up at Nam Eatery in the Heights. Chef Mike Lim and the Tobiuo crew will be taking over the kitchen and dishing out a variety of eats, including pork chasu and soft-shell crab buns, crudo plates and tempura fried ribeye.

Houston Jerk Fest at India House
Sunday, 2 to 10 p.m.

Experience a lively celebration of Caribbean food, live music, and culture at India House. Named for the iconic jerk seasoning of the islands, Houston Jerk Fest will feature a jerk seasoning cook off competition, Caribbean food booths, custom fine arts and crafts booths, and live performances by world renown Reggae, Dancehall, Soca and Afro Beats artists. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $100 for VIP.
