Once a month the amazing staff at 8th Dimension Comics selects a pile of the best new releases for us to peruse and judge.
If you haven't caught any of the Guild created by and starring Felicia Day, it's on Netflix and you're an idiot. Dark Horse brings us a neat little one shot set in the universe centering on the king of all pretentious gits, Marion, leader of the Axis of Anarchy in the show's MMORPG. Day and Marion's live-action portrayer Wil Wheaton craft an incredibly hilarious look into the mind of someone who has taken philosophy just a little too far and become a cliché of such epic proportions it's like someone cast Rob Schneider in Waiting for Godot.

It's been a while since I checked in with Alan Moore's League, and I've just never been as into the modern adventures as the first two Victorian romps. I have to say though, seeing Harry Potter as the actual Anti-Christ, massacring everyone at Hogwarts and then trying to piss lightning all over the world to end it was something you don't see every day. Nonetheless, it's not a truly inspired story, and I think it's likely the League has run its course. That being said, Moore has conceived the most awesome version of God ever in the final showdown, and when you realize who she is bricks will be shat.

I'd been dreading the rebirth of Alan Moore's most famous creations that DC had dreamed up. I mean, how do you top Watchmen? You don't, but that's not the point of superhero comics and it never has been. You continue the stories because you have the characters, and they're meant to live on the page, not be cosigned to a vault marked "Holy, Do not touch." I picked up the Minutemen and Silk Spectre. The first is fantastic read along the lines of the Twelve, with all kinds of interesting new takes on the barely mentioned forefathers of the Watchmen universe and a particularly poignant expose on the Silhouette that brings her to life in a way Moore never did. Silk Spectre was slightly less dynamic, but still a fine book all around.
