Kindle Classics on Audible.com, for Free

Everybody likes getting stuff for free. Getting good stuff for free is even better. As a Kindle owner, we're faced with the possibility of shelling out as much as $600 for one of the new and improved devices being released in November, so getting quality Kindle content for free is an especially welcomed opportunity right now.

Whispersync for Voice lets you switch from reading a book on a Kindle to listening to the audiobook version of that same title seamlessly. We found a cache of free audiobooks from Audible.com -- free, that is, if you already own the Kindle version of the book, which itself is available for $0.00. (You don't need a Kindle, of course. An Audible app for your phone or tablet will work just as well.)

It's a limited Audible selection, just 22 classics, but they are well-done and worth a listen. And all together, they make for a nice collection. Titles include A Tale of Two Cities, Dracula and Wuthering Heights.

Here's how to get your free Audible/Kindle classics:

Visit the page for free Whispersync for Voice page in the Kindle store.

Select a free title, such as The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.

You'll see a notice that says "Add the professional narration of The Three Musketeers for a reduced price of $0.00 after you buy this Kindle book." Click on the "professional narration" live link to buy the Audible audiobook. (It lists for $34.99, but you'll get it for $0.00.) John Lee narrates the unabridged version, which totals more than 23 hours.

If you want to shop for other Audible.com titles, check the Audible.com offers page for the current membership specials. Right now you can sign up for a free 30-day trial membership. You get two free books during the first month, after which the $14.95 monthly membership fee kicks in. (You can cancel anytime.) Be smart and use your free book credits for other titles, not for the already free Whispersync for Voice classics titles.
