Michael Peranteau Becomes Second Art League Executive Director in Four Months

This week, Art League Houston announced the appointment of Michael Peranteau to the position of executive director. Peranteau, who began his new gig on Tuesday, was most recently the development director of Project Row Houses.

Peranteau replaces outgoing executive director Glenn Weiss, who left Art League under rather mysterious circumstances.

Once again, Art Attack tried to get the answer about Weiss, who, according to his Facebook and LinkedIn pages, is still working in Houston as a self-employed consultant. However, a phone message left with Jennie Ash of Art League Houston was not returned and our e-mail to Art League asking about the Weiss incident was ignored.

The circa 1948 nonprofit will move forward with Peranteau, who has solid chops with art-based organizations. In 1980, he co-founded the Center for Art and Performance gallery with Max Pruneda. He later helped hook up DiverseWorks, where he worked for 12 years, with an artist residency program and a performance space.

Peranteau is also the founder of Artist Projects Inc., which consults small-scale arts organizations such as Nameless Sound and Voices Breaking Boundaries.
