We are excited to announce that on Friday, 5/20, from 6PM-8PM, we will be giving away free 1/4 Basic Burgers at Little Bitty Burger Barn. As you know Houston was voted one of the best burger places in the U.S. by Travel & Leisure Magazine. I know our customers love our burgers so we're inviting everyone to come out and enjoy one, on us.
Go early, go often. Or something like that.
For more mini-bites, be sure to grab your tickets today for tomorrow's Great Taste of the Heights at the All Saints Catholic Church on 10th Street. The annual event will feature food from the 'hood's best restaurants, such as benjy's on Washington, Broken Spoke, Carter and Cooley, Chatters, Hickory Hollow, Pink's Pizza, Pizzitola's, Shade and many, many more. There's no online ticketing, but you can purchase passes for $25 at the event itself or from one of these four locations.
Hopefully, you caught our two posts this week about a weekend filled with crawfish. Tomorrow is the Big Star crawfish boil hosted by our own EOW blogger Jason Bargas, with the first batch coming out at 2 p.m. And this Sunday is Tuscapalooza at Firkin & Phoenix, sponsored by Texas Girls Pint Out. It's a great excuse to eat with your friends while you help support victims of the tornadoes in Alabama.
This Wednesday, May 25, it's Bring Your Blanket To Work Day if you work downtown. Why is that? Because the City Hall Farmers Market is hosting a picnic day and inviting people to stretch out on blankets around the central fountain and enjoy lunch from dozens of local vendors -- many of whom don't just sell produce; they also sell ready-to-eat meals. Two personal favorites are the half sandwiches from Words & Food (best pimento cheese in town!) and Frank the Pretzel from the Eatsie Boys. There will also be bocce ball and a host of other activities sponsored by Urban Harvest if you want to do something other than a little daytime lounging.
And coming up in June, the annual Italian Expo kicks off the summer at George R. Brown when it sets up shop from June 3 to 5. Advance tickets are a mere $10 online, a bargain when you consider the sheer size of the Italian Expo and all the food and wine that makes an appearance throughout the weekend. This year's expo will also include live cooking demonstrations from chefs such as Trattoria Il Mulino's Michele Mazza and Quattro's Chef Maurizio Ferrarese.
