Too Bad It Rained: Top 5 Fried Foods I Wish I Had Tasted at the State Fair of Texas

Unfortunately, it rained literally all day long in Dallas on Saturday. Which just so happened to be the day I planned to attend the State Fair of Texas.

There were many things I was looking forward to doing. I wanted to see Big Tex, ride the Ferris Wheel, watch the pig races and enjoy the fireworks at night. But more importantly, I wanted to try some fried food.

Here are my top five fried foods I wish I could have tasted while at the State Fair of Texas. Maybe next weekend Mother Nature won't prevent me from driving up there.

5. Deep-Fried Bubblegum

The second I read Carla Soriano's article about the top ten State Fair of Texas Foods, and saw that there was fried bubblegum, I added it to my list of foods to try at the fair. It is pink, fried and so intriguing. Is it overly sweet? Can you chew it at all? All of these questions came to my mind at once, making me want to taste this interesting fried concoction.

4. Fletcher's Corny Dogs

It's not a State Fair of Texas without Fletcher's Corny Dogs. The sweet bread coating around a perfectly cooked hot dog is exactly what every person at the State Fair wants to eat. They're a classic, so of course I was looking forward to having one of these at the fair.

3. Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll

It was deemed "Most Creative" at the State Fair this year, so why not try it? I love bacon, I love cinnamon rolls and I know I would love them together. I'm a sucker when it comes to sweets, but adding a savory element to the cinnamon rolls makes them ten times as good.

2. Chicken Fried Cactus Bites

Anything chicken-fried has to be good. Chicken fried steak is one of my all-time favorite foods. It's crispy, sweet, smothered in white gravy and always satisfies by Texas comfort food cravings. So, naturally, chicken fried cactus bites come to the top of my list of foods to try at the State Fair. I think the agave nectar dipping sauce they come with sealed the deal for me as something to try at the fair. My taste buds are still extremely curious as to how these things taste.

1. Fried Oreos

I don't care what other fried foods they have at the State Fair, deep fried Oreos will ALWAYS be my favorite thing to try. They're not too gooey, not too crunchy, they're perfect. I love the crispy exterior of the fried batter surrounding the soft and melting Oreo cookie on the inside. With a simple dusting of powdered sugar, these treats are my favorite things fried at the State Fair of Texas.
