Fast Times: Chick-fil-A's Spicy Chicken Sandwich Deluxe

We'll be taking a look at one different menu item each week from a selected fast food restaurant. Items can range from an old classic to a limited-time offering. Everything is fair game.

In the world of fast food, Chick-fil -A's Spicy Chicken Sandwich Deluxe is really about as good as it gets. If this sandwich swam in the Olympics, it would be Michael Phelps. Too dated? I think you get the drift. It was damn good. And damn unhealthy--as in 570 calories (27 grams of fat).

If you're going to clog the arteries, you might as well do it in style. How does a tender chicken filet topped with fresh veggies and a slice of Pepper Jack cheese sound? The large filet was crispy and had a nice, mild burn to it. The lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and bun were all very fresh. Appearance was second only to taste. When in the hell does real-life fast food actually look like something out of a commercial? Almost never -- then along comes a Spicy Sandwich Deluxe.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second to order this sandwich again. Given its size and high caloric value, I'd probably pass on ordering the fries and fountain drink. I ate mine with a glass of water and was quite full. Good luck passing on those waffle fries.
