Cheap Oysters, Cold Beer and a Boat

Like many other Houstonians, I love a good oyster. Most of the time I prefer them cold, slimy, raw - topped with a bit of cocktail sauce and a squeeze of lemon - slurped directly from the shell. Luckily for me, Houston is a prime place to go oyster slurping, in price and availability.

With much ado about the East Coast oysters selling like hotcakes for $1 at The Oceanaire recently, I decided to head to a place in town that had them at half the price - Capt. Benny's, which sells Gulf oysters for $5.99 a dozen, and only $4.99 between 2 and 6 p.m.

If you're looking for more value for your hard-earned dollar, hit up the unassuming boat of a restaurant. While you're there, you might as well throw back a few micheladas to wash those inexpensive oysters down.
