Upcoming Events

A reminder that if you love craft beer and want to see its sale and distribution made easier across the State of Texas, show up to Moon Tower Inn this Saturday at 4 p.m. for the launch party of Open the Taps. The founders will be there to address questions as well as to start fundraising efforts for the lobbying that will have to be done to affect any real change in the next legislative session. Plus, you know...beer. There will be lots of really good beer.

In addition to lots of beer, we also have wine pairings aplenty this week, starting with next Tuesday's La Vie en Rose wine dinner at Bistro Provence. A five-course meal featuring traditional Provençal dishes paired with a variety of Rosés will be offered for only $65 a person. And if you're eager to learn more about any of the Rosés, you're in luck: Tim Smith of French Country Wines is that night's guest of honor.

That weekend, you'll have your pick of pairing events: one on Friday night and one on Saturday night. On Friday, head downtown for the French Wine Dinner at III Forks on Friday, July 29. A four-course menu from Chef Ozzie Rogers will be available for $125 a person, which includes the wine pairings. Call 713-658-9457 for reservations.

If you're as addicted to HGTV shows like Kitchen Impossible and Spice Up My Kitchen as I am, here's an upcoming event you don't want to miss: Next Saturday, July 30, Madeval Kitchen Design Studio is hosting a wine tasting and food pairing in its studio. For $5, you'll get wine and food pairings all evening as you make your way around different dream kitchen set-ups in the design studio. Tickets can be purchased online.

Monday, July 25 kicks off the annual Go Texan Restaurant Roundup, which runs through July 31. Each year, participating restaurants serve special menus of Texas-grown or Texas-raised foods, with portions of their sales going to food banks across the state. This year, Haven and Rio Ranch are the two participating restaurants in Houston, with AVIA Kitchen & Lounge participating up in The Woodlands and The Barbed Rose rounding things out in Alvin.

Last but not least, this Saturday, July 24, H-E-B is hosting its very own "Cake Boss" contest. Teams of employees will compete to see who can decorate the prettiest and most elaborate cake for a panel of judges that includes our own Carrie Applegate Jaeger. Each team will have three hours to prepare, decorate and present their creations. The winning team will earn $500, but the real fun is in watching the competition take place. Judging takes place at 3:30 p.m. at the H-E-B Pearland Plus store on 2805 Business Center Drive.
