Wendy's Homestyle Asiago Chicken Ranch Chicken Club

Given last week's loss of my Wendy's Asiago Chicken sandwich to A Crafty Canine, I took additional precautions this week and put her in her kennel when I brought my second sandwich home. This time my husband was home, too, and he started sniffing around my take-out bag. His assessment, "It smells like a fart, but it looks really good."

So appetizing.

Let me just say, the sandwich smells like a chicken sandwich, and I'm pretty sure my husband was just trying to snake the whole sandwich for himself by ruining my appetite. It didn't work, though I did slice it in half so we could share.

If there is one thing I love about Wendy's, it's the buns -- they are of the very sweet egg variety, and I find them irresistible. I love the soft texture, and the slight sweetness of the dough against whatever savory ingredients come between the two halves. And as you can see, the chicken breast is quite large, with lots of crispy breading; the meat itself was very moist.

I opted for the Homestyle sandwich -- you can also try the Spicy version, or the "healthier" grilled chicken -- which comes topped with Applewood smoked bacon, Asiago cheese, creamy ranch, lettuce, and tomato. The sandwich is simple, and without a lot of "zing," but it is satisfying, and it better be, for 720 calories. The Asiago gets a little lost under the ranch dressing, which was applied with a heavy hand, but on the second or third bite the cheese comes through more. Wanting a little more kick, I added a few dashes of hot sauce, which made the sandwich perfect for me, and leads me to believe that the Spicy version of the Asiago Ranch sandwich might be excellent. I can't wait to try it.
