This Week In Food Blogs: Burgers, Burgers and More Burgers

29-95: Did you head out to the food truck rally this past Sunday at The Refinery? Andrew Rebman was there snapping shots all day long, in case you missed it. Most food trucks ran out of food -- although a few were able to restock and sell out once again -- as huge crowds clamored for unique eats from Houston's mobile food vendors. We just hope the City Council was paying attention...

Dallas Morning News: At the daily in Dallas, food critic Leslie Brenner lists 20 new rules for restaurateurs and the servers they employ. Considering that numbers 1, 2, 10 and 11 all happened to me last night at the same restaurant, I'd say Brenner's on-point here.

Robb Walsh: As second and third generations of Vietnamese immigrants to Houston continue in their restaurateur parents' footsteps, the cuisine is bound to shift and evolve over time, picking up new American influences along the way. At b10 Vietnamese Cafe, that means the creation of dishes like Vietnamese steak and eggs served on a sizzling Tex-Mex comal and a sloppy banh mi, which Robb Walsh describes as "a banh mi riff on the sloppy joe with curry instead of barbecue sauce and topped with basil leaves and pickled green papaya instead of pickles and onions."

L'Histoire de sa Vie: Nathan hit Hearsay this week and indulged in one of our own favorite menu items there: The Byrd. It's a bacon-jalapeño-fried egg-cheddar- mozzarella-onion-and-tomato-topped burger on a sweet bun served with an outstanding side of chef Nick Banaszak's mac 'n' cheese, which is even better when enjoyed with one of Hearsay's great cocktails.

Jack Tyler Dines: Speaking of burgers, Jack Tyler covered the events at this past Sunday's big Backyard Burgers cook-off at Discovery Green, sponsored by CultureMap. Although there was stiff competition among the dozen restaurants who participated, it was ultimately J. Black's simple Wagyu burgers with gorgonzola and Straits' Thai-style pork burgers that won the judges over.

Houston Chronicle: One final burger shout-out this week, and that's for Sugar Land's own Guru Burgers (whom we're pretty big fans of) for snagging a solid and well-deserved A from the Chron's Alison Cook in her weekly Burger Friday post.

Delicious Mischief: Finally, we leave this week with an excellent end-of-summer recipe (although it's technically fall, it certainly still feels like summer outside) for brisket-stuffed Texas 1015 onions, the latter of which you can still find in great quantities at area markets such as Canino's.
