5 Foods My Dad Really Wants for Father's Day, & Your Dad Will Want Them, Too

Father's Day is this Sunday, for those of you who may have been living underneath a rock and haven't seen all the buzz about the holiday dedicated to celebrating our dads. This week, Brooke Viggiano gave us five things to do around Houston with Dad, like taking him to lunch, then to top golf, which I completely support.

I asked my dad what he wants for Father's Day, so here are the five dishes he would like to eat on his special day. I'm sure yours would enjoy some of these too.

5. Cast-Iron Steak

While we do like to grill steaks throughout the summer, there's something special about making a steak in a cast-iron skillet; that's always a guarantee that it will come out perfectly seared, crispy and tender. My mom and I work together to make my dad the perfect steak in a cast-iron skillet. Simply choose the cut of meat your dad loves, whether that's a NY Strip, porterhouse, T-bone or a filet mignon, then follow these instructions for making steak in a cast-iron skillet. My dad loves a NY Strip because to him it has the best flavor. Finish with a pat of butter, the way they do in restaurants, and your dad will absolutely love the salty accent to the delicious caramelization on the steak.

4. Chocolate Milkshake

It's the perfect complement to a cast-iron steak -- steak and shake. Whip together a chocolate milkshake with some of the best chocolate ice cream, a.k.a. Blue Bell, add some cold milk and extra chocolate sauce, then voilà, you have the best milkshake ever. Top it with some whipped cream and a cherry for the perfect finishing touch.

3. Blueberry Pancakes

When it comes to breakfast, my dad nine times out of ten will ask for blueberry pancakes; they are his favorite thing to eat in the morning. Fluffy pancakes bursting with blueberries, topped with butter and maple syrup, and a big cup of coffee on the side, makes the perfect breakfast.

2. Enchiladas

If I had a nickel for every time my dad asked for enchiladas for dinner, I would be a very, I repeat very, rich woman. There's something about the combination of tortillas, tender and spicy chicken, with a creamy cheese sauce, that my dad absolutely loves. For an extra special touch, my mom makes enchiladas with a spicy red sauce topped with melted cheese, so each bite is creamy and spicy and really hits the spot.

1. Strawberry Shortcake

Each summer, my dad loves to have strawberry shortcakes. He prefers the original version of this summery dessert, made with an actual shortcake. You can use Bisquick and make an easy shortcake to use in the dessert, or make it from scratch. Either way, it's a refreshing dessert that my dad absolutely loves. Finish it with fresh strawberries and homemade whipped cream.
