100 Favorite Dishes: No. 96, Swiss Chard Crepes at Giacomo's Cibo e Vino

This year leading up to our annual Best of Houston issue, we're counting down our 100 favorite dishes in Houston. This list comprises our favorite dishes from the last year, dishes that are essential to Houston's cultural landscape and/or dishes that any visitor (or resident) should try at least once.

It's a crying shame that Giacomo's is so often overlooked by those in search of a wonderful Italian meal. The service is friendly, the prices are thoroughly affordable, the wines are well-selected, the decor is impeccable and the food is fabulous. Case in point: the $5 crepes stuffed with Swiss chard and topped with pecorino-romano.

Sweet crepes, bitter greens and nutty, salty cheese combine in effortless harmony here and although the dish is easily split, you won't want to share. During my last visit, my dining companion took his knife to the ramekin and scraped out every last bite of the chard and cheese, decorum be damned.

Combine this dish and a few others -- all equally affordable -- with an inexpensive bottle of wine and you'll see why Giacomo's is my favorite hideaway for date nights or lingering dinners with old friends.

The list so far:

No. 100: Dumplings at Heights Asian Cafe No. 99: Mixta Pizza at Friends Pizzeria No. 98: Veggie tacos from Radical Eats No. 97: Bean pie from Conscious Cafe
