It's not a chain like Soundwaves, it doesn't host several in-stores a week like Cactus Music, it doesn't share a side street with a block of bars and music venues like Sig's Lagoon, and it's not a destination for vinyl and underground-music junkies like Black Dog, Sound Exchange and Vinal Edge.
It doesn't even have a Web site, although it does have a Facebook page. But Allrecords has managed to stay open for 30 years, and it still is - just in a new location.
This past weekend, Allrecords moved to 3211 Edloe, near Greenway Plaza, after three decades of tenancy in the River Oaks Shopping Center. Although the specter of demolition has been hovering over the historic Art Deco development for years, that's not why the small record store moved. Not directly, anyway.
According to owner Fred Allred, property owners Weingarten Realty offered him a chance to move, but he was unable to find a suitable new location in the center after his neighbors at Luke's Locker decided to expand. Hence, the move.
"I like it," he tells our sister blog Hair Balls. "Although it's not as easy to find as a shopping center on West Gray and it's not a place you've been for 30 years."

Stop on by. Maybe you can convince Allred to cut you a deal on the two Led Zeppelin vinyl box sets and boxloads of Blue Note and Prestige LPs he discovered while he was packing up the old location.
