Emilio Just Can't Catch a Break

Tejano superstar Emilio Navaira, who nearly died when the tour bus he was driving crashed into the concrete barrier on Loop 610 near the Southwest Freeway intersection, was involved in another motor-vehicle accident this week. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Navaira's agent says the singer and wife Maria were headed to their San Antonio home from rehab - Navaira suffered a brain injury in the earlier crash and was in a coma for several days - Wednesday when she ran into a truck an eyewitness said was turning left across three lanes of traffic. The Navairas were taken to San Antonio University Hospital and are in stable condition, the Express-News says.

Navaira, 46, had been undergoing rehabilitation at TIRR in Houston, but evacuated to San Antonio for Hurricane Ike. He has been one of the most recognizable faces and voices in Tejano since forming his group Rio in 1989 with brother Raulito, winning the Best Tejano Album Grammy in 2002 for Acuerdate, and has crossed over to the Billboard country chart several times.

He should also probably stay away from anything with four wheels and a gas tank for a good long while. - Chris Gray
