News You Can Use From Ye Olde House of Blues

  • Back around Labor Day, you may remember that the Tontons played a free show in House of Blues' Bronze Peacock Room that the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau filmed for a promotional video. Bless their hearts, the GHCVB is trying to "change the world's perception of Houston"... good luck with that, y'all.

As you can see above, it's finished, and Rocks Off has a deal for you. The first person to correctly identify any 25 locations in the video - there are about 40; from the title of the video and this item, we hope you can guess at least one - wins a pair of tickets to any upcoming HOB show. Email lists to [email protected]; do us a favor and put "Tontons video" in the subject header.

If for some reason nobody gets 25, the tickets will go to the person who identifies the most correct locations. Deadline is 9 a.m. Monday, December 28.

  • Speaking of deadlines, entries for Rocks Off, Fuse and Sonicbids' first annual Texas High School Rock Off, which goes down January 8 at HOB, are due by 5 p.m. tomorrow. That's not a lot of time, and Rocks Off doesn't recommend going anywhere near a post office these days, so probably the best thing to do is bring them in person (don't forget a three-song demo) to the venue at 1204 Caroline in downtown Houston. See here for further information.

  • From now until Christmas Eve, anyone who brings an unwrapped NEW toy to HOB will receive up to 10 tickets to one of the venue's upcoming shows. (Drop them off at the host stand in the restaurant downstairs.) Shows include Dave Matthews Tribute Band (Friday), Two Tons of Steel/1100 Springs (Dec. 23), Back In Black (Dec. 26), Better Than Ezra (Dec. 29) and Frontiers (Jan. 1). The toys will be donated to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation's Houston chapter.

  • On that note, Rocks Off has a donkey-choking stack of tickets to a few upcoming HOB shows ourselves we'd like to give away. Now until next Wednesday, direct-message us on Twitter at @hprocksoff and we'll give you a pair to either the DMB Tribute Band, Two Tons (our pick), Back In Black or Le Freak (Dec. 30). You may notice that three of those four shows are also covered in the above toy drive.

So did we. And since we only report on douchery, not traffick in it ourselves (or try not to anyway), we're only going to hand over the tickets if you show us a toy when you come pick them up at our office, which, conveniently, is not terribly far from House of Blues. It really is the least you can do.
