How Rocks Off Spends a "Night Off"

[Note: this was written at 1 a.m. this morning while Rocks Off listened to Wilco's A.M. for approximately the 15th time in the last two weeks.]

Rocks Off would just like to state for the record how happy he is. Tomorrow I may feel like shit, and probably will, but tonight I'm like a kid behind the counter. It just shouldn't ever have to be this hard.

I almost don't want to talk about how great the Supersuckers were tonight, because I didn't take pictures, didn't plan on reviewing it and the only notes I took were text-messages to a friend. Something along the lines of "'Bloody Mary Morning'; now 'Pretty Fucked Up.'"

This was before midnight, too; make of that what you will. But I ain't sorry - it was my night off, and the Supersuckers totally rebaptized me in the evil powers of rock and roll.

[This morning]

Oh, what the hell. Rocks Off is still in a good mood, and actually doesn't feel like shit in the least. Click through to see what a text-message review (albeit adapted into standard English from textese) looks like.

The Supersuckers' latest album Get It Together, with a bonus DVD of a 90-minute 2007 set at Anaheim's House of Blues, will be released Tuesday on the band's own Mid-Fi label. It's also available at tonight's show. You should go.
10:08 p.m.: "Suckers on any minute. That's all I care about now. Everything else too complicated." 10:54 p.m.: "God damn this is a great rock and roll band." 11:03 p.m.: "I'm past due. And then some. Can't you tell? This is exactly what I need. Damn the torpedoes."

11:09 p.m.: "Upstairs to drop off my poster + CD. Can almost pick out the song." 11:24 p.m.: "Every time I forget, rock + roll always reminds me. [Singer Eddie Spaghetti]: 'How do you want it, good or awesome?' Guess..." 11:27 p.m.: 'Creepy Jackalope Eye,' now 'Bloody Mary Morning.' Uh-oh."

11:38 p.m.: "They just. Finished. From the last time I texted. Now it's 'Pretty Fucked Up.'" 11:43 p.m.: "It's like AC/DC + Thin Lizzy had a baby, with horns. Godspeed." 11:51 p.m.: "Cover. Rock n roll star. Angus, not Oasis [AC/DC's 'Rock N Roll Singer']."

11:57 p.m.: "'Born with a Tail.' 'Til tomorrow, then." 12:09 a.m.: "That was deliverance, man." - Chris Gray

The Supersuckers and Whiskey Boat perform 9 p.m. tonight at the Continental Club, 3700 Main, 713-529-9899. $10.
