Some rappers happen to be thoughtful, intelligent people. Each week Rocks Off will have some of them here discussing issues relevant to their culture.
This Week's Panel: OG Ron C, Mac, Preemo, O.N.E., Kiotti, Brad Gilmore, YS, Medicine Girl, Kyle Hubbard, Eskabel, Zavey, D-Risha, RoderickVonn
Not Invited: Jacoby Jones
This Week's Prompt: Jay-Z nearly stopped the Internet when he fake-stopped using the word "bitch." If you could, which word would you eliminate from rap?
OG Ron C: I would erase "nigga."
Bun B: "Real," because it's overused.
Mac: "Swag." It has become a mask or a mode that rappers put on. An act.
Preemo: Swag.
O.N.E.: I would remove the word "real"; the most misused word in hip-hop.
Kiotti: Probably "real." Everyone has their own definition. I just don't accept most rappers definition. There should be pictures, or a How To manual. Self-perception can be a person's worst enemy.
Brad Gilmore: The word "cracker," for obvious reasons. Also, "honky," "whitey," "wigger"; I think y'all get the picture. Bling, bling. Swag.
YS: Swag. I hate that word. I wanna punch people in the face who use it.
Medicine Girl: "Swag" needs to be totally eliminated, in part because it's too close to "shwag," which I don't smoke.
Kyle Hubbard: Though its use seems to have been on a steady decline for years, I feel like we should commit to the full elimination of the word "crunk." I always feel like something awful is sure to follow anytime I hear it.
Eskabel: All profanity. Room of Color doesn't have one.
Zavey: Swag.
D-Risha: I would eliminate "swag." It's the most overused pile of bull rap has ever seen that keeps being brought back from the dead to be used over and over again.
RoderickVonn: None. I'm all for freedom of speech. I couldn't eliminate anything.
