Girlfriend: Houston Rapper Preemo Coming Around After Overnight Shooting

According to the mother of his 17-month-old son, Houston rapper Preemo is coming around and talking after suffering an abdominal gunshot wound sometime overnight Monday.

Robin Aaron, Preemo's girlfriend, told Rocks Off Monday that the rapper is stable and had undergone surgery for a bullet wound from about 6 to 7:30 this morning. She was with him at the Texas Trauma Institute at Memorial Herrmann, she said.

About 4 p.m., Aaron said that Preemo was talking and "we're getting the story," adding that he had been in and out of consciousness for several hours.

Information on what exactly happened Sunday night/Monday morning is sketchy. Aaron estimated that Preemo had been shot about an hour after she had last talked to him late Sunday. He had been traveling by bus to meet a friend near South Park, she added, and that friend called her this morning saying he still hadn't heard from him.

"Whenever I talked to him, he said he was supposed to be going over there," Aaron said. "He said he was on his way.

"And then this morning, his friend called me and said that he was really worried because he had been driving all around throughout the morning looking for him," she added. "He couldn't find him, and he was a little bit worried and scared."

Aaron said she was supposed to meet up with Preemo before she went to work Monday morning, and that when she got off the phone with his friend, a nurse from the hospital had left her a voicemail saying that the rapper had been admitted. On Houston's major media sites, there have been no reports of any overnight shootings in Houston's southern reaches.

"It could have been anywhere from downtown all the way to Pearland," Aaron said. "And that's the frustrating part. We won't know until he wakes up."

The 33-year-old rapper, whose given name is Aaron Beltran, was born in Missouri and grew up in Mexico and several spots in the Southwest. He was once courted by major labels and described himself as a "gypsy" in a Houston Press article around the time his local breakthrough album, Concrete Dreams, came out in 2010. His group All Day, which he formed with Houston MC Tawn-P in 2012, is nominated for Best Rap Group in this year's Houston Press Music Awards.

Monday afternoon, Preemo's Facebook page was crowded with prayers and well-wishes, some by his fellow rappers.

"Prayers are with you homie," posted Thorogood Wordsmith. "Wish you a quick recovery."

"Pray for Preemo Houston everyone," added Hashbrown Jettimastyr.

Aaron said that earlier, a nurse told had her police would more than likely be by to interview Preemo once he came around. Stay tuned for further updates.
