Some rappers happen to be thoughtful, intelligent people. Every Monday (or thereabouts), Rocks Off will have some of them here discussing issues relevant to their culture.
This Week's Panel: Bun B, Slim Thug, Killa Cal Wayne, Kiotti, Mac, Yung Chill, C-Stone
Not Invited: Kurt Loder
This Week's Prompt: The BET Awards were Sunday night. What, if anything, was the biggest surprise of the evening?
Kiotti: Two things: Mary as the opening act. The promo was top secret, like Nicki and Kim were gonna pull a Madonna and Britney. Secondly, I watched TV to watch Beyonce on a TV. She was mid-concert! She got paid to do a free show. Respect.
Killa Cal Wayne: Why wasn't I on the awards. Cee-Lo had the best performance (true entertainer), Big Sean was wack; looks like Fab, sounds like Drake. Why no one from Houston was on except Beyonce. And it didn't seem like everyone was down with YMCMB*.
*YMCMB = Young Money and Cash Money Billionaires This is an especially astute observation. Their reception was, at times, a bit chilly, similar to how you'd greet a group of rich, entitled kids you didn't entirely like.
Mac: Beyonce not performing live at the awards was an upsetting surprise. And the size of Free's* buttocks was a surprise.
*Free is a BET staple. Her butt is, to put it delicately, large. Several thousand unsavory comments popped up on Twitter each time she was shown.
C-Stone: The Five Heartbeats, hands down.
Yung Chill: Chris Brown's gigantic NHL knee pads.
Bun B: Karmin. Because it was the BET awards.
Slim Thug: How fine Evelyn* [Lozada's] daughter is.
*Evelyn is a person from the reality TV show Basketball Wives.
Everyone Who Was Asked: I didn't watch it. I had a show/was working on music/do not appreciate that sort of television program.
