Warren Hood

Warren Hood is probably tired of hearing about his musical genes, but it's really not possible to write about the young guy without at least tipping a hat toward his father Champ Hood. Hood the Elder, who most notably played with the legendary Walter Hyatt and passed away in 2001, managed to pass along the right moves and attitude. Today, his son is not only an in-demand sideman in his own right, but a full-fledged member of the critically acclaimed Waybacks. Covering a myriad of roots styles from pure folk to country to swinging jazz, young Hood's debut self-titled album, released this month, is indicative of his musical upbringing. He's even got enough sense to cover a Hyatt song now and then. Friday is his first headlining show at the Mucky Duck, but certainly not his last.
