Baby Rosebud

Already tired of White Stripes-like minimalist blues-punk-garage rock duos? The New Orleans women of Baby Rosebud offer up something completely different. Well, they are a duo, but there's neither a guitar in sight nor a Blind Willie McTell lick in earshot -- instead, you get spare drums banging out Eastern European rhythms and the spooky sound of the accorgan -- a rare, Italian-made hybrid of an organ and a squeezebox. If a band of Transylvanian Gypsies traded in life on the road and bought an old-school roller rink in Bucharest, this is what the music would sound like: mysterious yet fun.
