The Cunning Little Vixen

Though it sounds like the title of a movie a traveling businessman would order in a hotel, The Cunning Little Vixen reflects a wholly different kind of animalistic behavior. The 1924 opera by Czech composer Leos Janacek is the seemingly LSD-generated circle-of-life story involving a human forester, a vixen female fox cub he forcibly takes home as a pet, and a ravishing gypsy girl with whom he's infatuated. With the animals of the forest taking on human characteristics and a Twilight Zone-esque ending, the piece is nonetheless considered a light opera. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday.
