Houston three, New York zero: Recently, longtime Big Apple actors Kim Tobin, Georgi Silverman and Rick Silverman moved to Houston, where they found a ripe environment in which to start a new theater company, the Brave Dog Players. Today, alongside local co-founder Philip Lehl, they'll mount the Houston debut of Almost, Maine. (The three New Yorkers helped author John Cariani workshop the play a few years ago as he prepared to stage it off-Broadway.) Set in a tiny town in northernmost Maine, the lighthearted show consists of ten vignettes, each performed by two actors. The simple plot - The New York Sun described it as "love in the time of frostbite" - follows locals in the middle of a bleak Maine winter as they try to connect with one another by means equally romantic and hilarious. Cariani says, via press materials, "Knees are bruised; hearts are broken. Love is lost, found and confounded." 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays, and 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 15.
