Dieter Balzer

Dieter Balzer is known for his complex, clean-lined art objects - boxes on top of boxes and fun layers of primary blues and reds. The sculptural work, a mixture of geometry and ornament, is going up at Gallery Sonja Roesch. Roesch thinks the work is "marvelous, absolutely marvelous, because in history this constructive art was always valid. It did not follow some fashion. It has always had value. Also, he takes the personal input out. It's strictly impersonal. It's totally timeless." And the fanciful, colorful, geometric layers of three-dimensional lines and squares and rectangles are also wonderfully "modern and absolutely playful." There's an opening reception at 5 p.m. November 7. Regular viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Through January 2. 2309 Caroline.
