Here's your chance for your life story to become part of the permanent record at the Library of Congress. StoryCorps Historias, an independent oral history project based in New York, goes around the country inviting everyday people to record their stories via a mobile professional recording booth. This round of StoryCorps is specifically aimed at Latinos, says Diana Velez, communications specialist for StoryCorps Historias. "The idea of StoryCorps is to create this history of the United States where everyone can tell their story. [This time around] we want to record and preserve the life experiences of Latinos across the U.S., not as a means of segregation, but because we're trying to be inclusive and get everyone. Latinos are a huge population in the United States, and they have all kinds of stories." As part of the process, individuals come in with a family member or friend and interview each other, with a facilitator helping with the technical aspects. Participants receive a CD of their recordings, and with their permission, a copy is sent to the Library of Congress.
