Cinemad Almanac 2009 DVD Release Party

Experimental filmmaker Deborah Stratman (From Hetty to Nancy, Kings of the Sky) once told Mike Plante, editor of Aurora Picture Show's Cinemad blog, "I love watching films with stories...I just don't want to make them," adding, "I loved Herbie the Love Bug when it came out." You'd never confuse her films, or any of the other shorts lovingly released by Aurora Picture Show today, with anything by Disney. The Cinemad Almanac 2009 DVD Release Party is Aurora's fourth compilation screening. Often called avant-garde, experimental, or just weird shit, man, these movies cover the gamut of strangeness, and they feature some dream images that even Dal’ couldn't think up. Stratman's Paranormal Trilogy, Jake Mahaffy's mainstream Wellness and Animal Charm's Edge TV "defy simple categorization." Just go see them with Aurora Picture Show's founder and Almanac producer Andrea Grover today at 6 p.m. Boheme Cafe and Wine Bar, 307 Fairview.
