Cabaret

Oh, those naughty girls of the Kit Kat Klub — they’re back and lovelier than ever in the brand-new, totally revamped revival of Cabaret from Theatre Under the Stars. According to Lauren Lovell, TUTS’s public relations manager, the revival of the musical about a German club in the 1930s is “brighter and more glittery” than past productions. Extensive research shows that German cabarets of the time were “more flashy, more Vegas-like” than the skanky clubs imagined in older productions. So the TUTS production team has come up with a “sparkly fantasy world” that makes what happens when the Nazis come along that much more poignant. (Don’t worry, Sally Bowles still sings up a storm and all that Tony Award-winning music is intact.) Enjoy the glitz at 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays. Through June 28. Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, 800 Bagby. For information, call 713-558-2600 or visit www.tuts.com. $32 to $150.
