Who's Who in Black Houston

Meet more than a dozen of Houston's most prominent black leaders at Who's Who in Black Houston at the Houston Public Library. A book signing with artist Bert Long Jr., jurist Calvin Botley and community activist Judson W. Robinson III, among others, is the centerpiece of today's event, but there's plenty of time for handshaking and rubbing elbows. "This is a wonderful opportunity to bring in the leaders from the community to meet [readers]. We're excited because you might have access to one or two, but you wouldn't normally have access to all of them in the same room at the same time," says Sandra Fernandez, manager of public relations for the Houston Public Library. It's a bit of a bait and switch, Fernandez admits. "[Visitors] will come in to the library to see the [honorees], and while they're here, we'll entice them with the books, DVDs and all of the other wonderful things we have going on." 2 to 4 p.m. 500 McKinney. For information, call 832-393-1313 or visit www.houstonlibrary.org. Free (RSVP required).
