Star Spangled Salute

Detest Mozart? Cringe at Copland? Keel over at the sound of Strauss? Even you can't help but enjoy the exuberant sounds of a symphony orchestra on the Fourth of July. Today, the Houston Symphony puts on its annual spectacular at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in the form of "A Star Spangled Salute," a lineup of uplifting tunes worth the heat, the humidity and, hell, even the income tax. Headed up by conductor Michael Krajewski and helped along by vocalists The Cactus Cuties, the symphony will present a number of favorites, including the 1812 Overture, complete with cannons (cannons!). Bring a blanket, stay for the fireworks and get in touch with your patriotic side. 8 p.m. 100 Concert Drive. For information, call 281-373-3386 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. Free.
