The Third Side

Chances are Darwin had no idea that his theory of evolution would still be causing such a controversy 150 years after he published Origin of the Species. As the debate in education circles continues, Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company is taking another look at the naturalist’s legacy with its premiere of Tom Vaughan’s The Third Side, about a biology professor who questions Darwin. He “decides that natural selection is not the driving force behind evolution,” says M.U. Artistic Director Jennifer Decker. “He believes there might be a pattern. He claims that he is not arguing for intelligent design, but that’s what it is.” His career is on the line, and so are his beliefs. See what all the monkey business is about today at The Third Side. 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. Through May 30. DiverseWorks, 1117 East Freeway.
