A Day at the Races

Poor Mrs. Upjohn. Those pesky Marx Brothers tormented the uptight society dame every chance they got, and their treatment of her in A Day at the Races is no different. The 1937 comedy classic finds the brothers trying to weasel money out of their frequent foil (deliciously played by Margaret Dumont) in order to save a bankrupt sanatorium. Mrs. Upjohn is leaving the facility (and taking her money with her) because the inept doctors can’t find anything wrong with her. In steps a made-to-order physician who’s more than willing to find lots wrong with her, Groucho Marx in one of his most memorable roles. 8:30 p.m. Domy Books, 1709 Westheimer.
