Mark Todd: “Oh, Man.”

Comic books, cars, fire, Kurt Russell — it’s no wonder Mark Todd calls his exhibition “Oh, Man.” Because that’s exactly the kind of stunned/amazed response his paintings and illustrations coax from viewers (mostly nerds). Todd re-creates vintage comic book covers and adds his own embellishments — lightning bolts, flames, rockets. His latest work features caricature-style illustrations of his own heroes, including some from his recently released book Bad Asses. The pocket-size book of drawings and commentary is an ode to awesome dudes and chicks. For example, Kurt Russell. When he played Snake Plissken in Escape from New York, he was “always pissed off,” Todd notes. “Then that movie Overboard came out.” The show opens today from 7 to 9 p.m., then runs Noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays. Through July 23. Domy Books, 1709 West-heimer. For information, call 713-523-3669 or visit www.domystore.com. Free.
