ClayHouston Festival 2008

Oh, clay. How you charmed our childhoods with your delightful squishiness. Most of us abandoned you, sadly, for pursuits like video games and smoking behind the garage, but there were those among us who nobly pressed on and now create delightful vessels, sculptures and other shapes. Both groups can unite at ClayHouston Festival 2008, a two-day festival at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Teachers, artists, buyers and collectors can gather, talk shop and revisit the molding days of their youth. The event features 18 exhibiting artists, who will present their gorgeously wrought wares, as well as local pros who will give live demonstrations of their clay-working methods. Adults, make an effort to avoid the clay activities table, which is for children (childlike doesn’t count). 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow. 4848 Main. For information, call 713-529-4848 or visit www.clayhouston.org. Free.
