Take a break from the current political frenzy and check out Viewfinder: New Images from Texas Artists, a photography exhibition at FotoFest that displays the creative diversity of this big state. Part of the Talent in Texas exhibition series, the program brings together photo-related work from some dozen artists, most in their twenties and thirties. Curated by Arturo Palacios (the director of Art Palace in Austin) and Risa Puleo (of Austins Blanton Museum), the display focuses on the wide scope of contemporary photographic styles, featuring everything from traditional still shots to video and installation pieces. Featured are Austins Ben Aqua, who specializes in kooky, bold portraits; Huntsvilles Buster Graybill, who often examines urban sprawl; and Dallass Beau Comeaux, who emphasizes luminescent landscapes.
Presented by FotoFest and Houston Center for Photography, the exhibit will be on display at both galleries. At FotoFest, viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Through January 10. 1113 Vine Street.
