Video Games Live

Futuristic soldiers, frogs crossing the road and diminutive Italian men with a fondness for smiling mushrooms are three things not regularly associated with the rarefied world of classical music. But today the local highbrows go a little haywire with Video Games Live, an extravaganza of gaming music performed by the Houston Symphony. Don’t be surprised to find yourself nodding along to the music of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Halo, Final Fantasy and a host of other games. Those who absolutely need visual stimulation will be pleased to know that singers, costumed characters and stage performers will flank the instrumentalists, video game footage and a light show will play overhead, and a preconcert festival will feature gaming contests. 7:30 p.m. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-224-7575 or visit www.videogameslive.com. $25 to $90.
