Slant 8: Bold Asian American Images

Tired of YouTube, but still like your flicks in the five-minute range? Head to the Aurora Picture Show’s Slant 8: Bold Asian American Images, a program that features 11 short flicks, each dealing with some aspect of Asian-American life. Experimental and narrative, silly and serious, the films cover everything from hate crimes (Soham Mehta’s Released) to love affairs (Alison Kobayashi’s Dan Carter) to issues with international adoption (Joyce Wong’s Souvenirs from Asia).

Those wanting more can return to see longer films. Saturday brings a show-and-tell screening of work by Canadian actor/director/writer Nobu Adilman, and Sunday has four documentary offerings, each making its Houston or Texas premiere. 8 p.m. today and tomorrow, 3 p.m. Sunday. 800 Aurora.
